Remove Gold Impurities

Natural gold is always in an impure form and have lots of other impurities. These impurities are usually the other metals presenst inside the earth and stones etc and are mixed with the gold. A gold refining process is needed to make this crude gold fully pure so that it may be used by the industry to make the products like jewelry and other gold products. The crude gold cannot be used to make the gold products.

There are different methods used to make gold pure. A common method, used when you have small amounts of gold, is called cupellation method. This method is very simple. Actually the impurities of gold are attached with the gold in a way that they can not be removed without breaking the gold. For this purpose it is necessarry to heat up the gold so that it is liquified and all the components are freed up.

In cupellation method the impure gold is taken in some container in a solution and is heated up continuously. The process of heating is continued till all the solid gold pieces are liquified in the solution. When this happens the molecules of all the metals including gold are present in the solution in the liquid form. Now, we need to extract only the gold molecules. For this purpose lead is added to the solution. Lead have the property to dissolve the gold in it.

When lead is added to the solution, the gold is dissolved in the lead. When this process is completed, lead is taken off from the solution. Now special treatment is done with the lead to oxidize it so that it released the dissolved gold from it.

In this way pure gold is extracted from the raw gold.
